Mary Peck Bond

The daughter of an Underground Railroad conductor, Mary Peck Bond is best known for founding the Center for the Elderly in
Pittsburgh, PA. It was established as a care center for the elderly or infirm African-Americans living in the area.
Bond began her quest to open the center in 1877, and worked tirelessly to raise money and find supporters. The Lemington Center was finally incorporated and opened on July 4, 1883.
